The Love of God
I sometimes struggle with why God does the things He
does. Why did he create a world that
doesn’t seem to care for Him? Why does
He continue its’ existence? Why did He
send His only Son to save a people who rejected Him, abandoned Him and crucified
Him? Why does He continue to love those
people and bless them in so many ways?
The answer is love.
Not love as we use it in our world today. We claim to love everything from ice-cream to
our new car. We talk so much of love
that I wonder if we haven’t lost the meaning of the word. Loving isn’t the same as liking; love is of
God and is miraculous whenever it occurs.
True love is a mystery that can only be found with God.
It doesn’t matter whether we love Him or hate Him, God’s love
for us continues endlessly. The sun
shines on the good and the bad equally.
He gives us the opportunity to turn to Him and accept His love throughout
our lives and is joyful with the death-bed acceptance that saves a sinner from
Hell. Jesus said, "But many that are first will be last, and the last first." (Matt 19:30). Whether we have been Christian for our entire life or turned to Him late in life, we are equally loved.
The love of God can’t be described; it is beyond the words
and emotions we have available to us. It
is grander than the universe and all within it.
His love is more intense than the fires of Hell. The greatest love known to mankind pales in
comparison to His love for us.
It’s not possible to fully understand God’s love in this
life. We can only accept that it is
beyond all we have ever known. We talk
of love, we sing of love, we all desire love but we don’t truly know love without
God. He is love; a love that never ends
and is given freely for the asking.
Father your
love is unending.
You give it
to us freely and generously.
May we live
our lives so as to honor that love.
Amen
