Room At the Inn
“She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2: 7)
As we
prepare to welcome the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ this night we need to ask
ourselves this question; is there room for Him at the inn of our heart?
If there is
hatred and anger in our heart there is no room for the Son of God who comes in
love for all. If there is jealously and
greed residing within us our inn has no room for God. If there is lust within our heart, we have no
room for Him. If there is arrogance and
self-importance in our hearts there is no room for the humility of Jesus who
would be born of woman and placed in a manger to offer redemption to all.
There has
never been and never will be a greater gift than the one we celebrate on this holy
night. It was to us that He came; it is for
our soul that He offers redemption. But
unless we can make room for Him by detaching ourselves from the evils
and sinfulness of the world He will find no room in our heart; there will be no
room for Him within us.
As we celebrate
His birth, let us ensure that our hearts are open to His love. Let us make certain that there is room for
Him at our inn.
