Personal Responsibility
As I look
around our country today one of the things that scares me the most is the lack
of personal responsibility. No one wants
to accept the consequences of their actions. When things go wrong they want to blame it all on someone else, anyone else, but never themselves. It’s taught in our schools, it’s promoted by
our government, and worst of all, it is even preached in some of our churches.
Our choices
are our own, and those choices will have consequences. We can’t blame the devil and we can’t blame
God for our misguided decisions. We can’t blame society or anyone else for the failure of our ill-advised choices in life.
It’s up to
us to consider the possible ramifications of the choices we make and to choose
wisely. What may seem like a good idea
at the time may bring catastrophe down the road. And if it does, we must be willing to place
the blame on us and the decision we made; we can’t blame the world for our
mistakes. And we must be willing to
answer for the damage our decisions sometimes cause.
Our choices
matter, but some are far more than others.
The most important of all is whether we will turn to God and accept Christ
as our Lord and Savior or follow the ways of the world. The ways of the world are the road to
perdition; the ways of Christ will lead us to heaven. “For God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.”
(John 3: 17)
