Humility
It is so easy to believe that we should receive the credit
for any good we may have done. It’s human
nature to seek approval and take pride in that approval. Humility, however, is not so much sought
after even though it is a great virtue.
Without humility I don’t believe it is possible to know God.
I look to Jesus and His life for the example of humility. He did marvelous things and performed many
miracles. Yet, I don’t see a single
instance of Him taking credit for them.
Glory is always given to the Father; He is doing the Father’s will. Even when faced with death He deferred to the
Father’s will.
So many times when He healed those needing it He credited the
faith of the one healed for the miracle rather than taking credit Himself. When feeding the thousands with a few loaves
of bread and a couple of fish He made no big deal of it. His concern was caring for those who were hungry,
not receiving praise for having fed them.
We can be so much closer to our Lord if we strive to emulate
the humility He taught in His words and actions. Our pride only stands in the way of our relationship
with Him. Any good we accomplish, anything
virtuous we achieve is through the grace of God. The more we recognize that and give Him the glory
the nearer we are to our Lord.
Lord, You are
the source all good things.
I am only
an instrument in Your hands.
Let me
always give You the glory.
Teach me
humility in all things.
Amen
