At Peace With The Lord
“Heaven
and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Matt 24: 35)
Jesus spoke
these words as He was explaining to His disciples that many things must occur
prior to the end of the world. He also
warned them that only God knows when that day will come. We can cause ourselves great angst by using world events to second guess when the end will come.
Turmoil,
wars, immorality, and sinfulness have existed since the fall of mankind. These were present before and during the life
of Jesus and will remain present until He returns in glory. It is up to us to decide whether we allow these
things to cause us distress and heartache.
We can instead choose to focus on the words of Christ, which will never pass away. I opt for the comfort and peace promised by Christ and His word.
It’s so easy
to look at the world and its’ troubles and grow weary, almost losing hope that
things will get better. Those we elect
to high office fail to uphold their responsibilities, causing discord and
conflict. Some who have taken a vow to
serve God and His people fail to uphold their vows, bringing shame and scandal
upon God’s Church, leading the flock astray.
Even within families there is friction and disagreement over worldly
matters of little importance.
In the word
of God and the teachings of Christ there is love, mercy, unity, and hope. I often remember the words of reassurance Jesus
spoke to His apostles, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of
good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John
16: 33).
Getting
distressed and depressed by the events of the world is the will of Satan. Trusting in the Lord and finding peace in Him
is the will of God.
What a mess we’ve made of Your world.
There is so much sin and immorality.
Yet You promise peace and joy.
I place my trust in You.
Amen
