Doubting Thomas
“Unless I
see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the
nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe.” (John 20: 25)
Many people,
like Thomas, say they won’t believe in God until they see
prove of His existence. Yet we believe
in many things we can’t see or understand.
For example, the earth on which we live rotates on its’ axis at a speed of 1,000
miles an hour, yet we don’t see or feel the rotation. Our orbit around the sun is at the incredible
speed of 67,000 miles an hour. Again we
don’t notice or feel that speed. How can
such a thing occur? An object spinning
upon its’ access while it plummets through space at such incredible speeds, all
while maintaining perfect positioning in an ever-expanding universe. Yet no one doubts that it happens.
We can’t see
the wind, but we can see its’ effects; no one doubts its’ existence. We have never seen the ocean floor in many areas,
but it is there whether we’ve seen it or not.
How does a seed, placed in the ground to rot become food? Science can explain the process but can’t
duplicate it or tell us how the process was established. We hear of the “big bang” but no one can tell
us who lit the fuse. We believe in many
things that we don’t understand, some of which will never be understood in this
lifetime.
If we want
proof of God we simply need to open our minds and our hearts. The evidence
is everywhere if we choose to accept it and believe. When Jesus next appeared to the disciples,
this time with Thomas present, He gave him the proof he desired. He then said, “Have you believed because
you have seen me? Blessed are those who
have not seen and yet believe.” (John 20: 29)
Lord, the proof is everywhere.
If we seek we will find the evidence.
You were, You are, You will always
be.
Open our hearts to believe the truth.
Amen
