Greater Plans

We plan; God laughs.  We develop life plans with no promise that tomorrow will come.  We speak with certainty of how our retirement will be.  We make financial planners rich by seeking their advice and direction on how to manage our money to last as long as we do.  We rarely consider that this may be our last day on earth.

This is not to say that we shouldn’t plan for our future; it’s simply to remind us that our future is not up to us.  God will decide the length of our life.  We should certainly do all we can to make our life as secure as possible.  But we must keep in mind that God’s will may drastically change those plans.

If we were to put as much care and concern into how we live each day as we do in planning for the future I think our lives would be much happier and joyful.  Meeting each person with the love of Christ in our heart; helping those who need it; caring for others.  These are the things that will make life joyful and these are the things that will build our reward in the life to come.

Plan for tomorrow; plan for retirement; plan for the future.  But always remember that God has greater plans for us.  Accept each day as a gift and strive to give as much back to Him as possible.  In this way we are planning for eternity.

Lord, I thank You for this day.
I pray that I may live it for You.
Teach me Your ways; show me Your will.
I submit all to Your greater plan.

Amen
