New Year’s
Day
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow
will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s
own trouble be sufficient for the day.” (Matt 6: 34)
New Year’s Day. The
day that many quit smoking, many quit drinking, many go on a diet and many
begin an exercise regimen. Most will not
last. After a few weeks the resolutions
will be forgotten just like last year’s were and next year’s will be.
Rather than set a goal for the year I try to keep it
simple. I try to set my goals for each
day. After all, January the first is
just another day. I have no way of
knowing what will occur during the next year or even the next day, so I try to
focus on the present.
Each day we should try to look to God rather than self for
meaning. Try to greet those we meet with
a smile and a pleasant word. There are
things that need to be done each day, try to do them as an offering and prayer
to God. When the day is done take the time
to look back and see where we have succeeded and where we have failed. Thank God for the successes and ask
forgiveness for the times we have failed.
Above all thank Him for the many blessings of each day; for the love and
mercy He has for us; for the coming of Jesus Christ as our Savior.
In the coming year there will be good days and bad. If we keep God in all days we can endure the
bad and rejoice in the good.
May God bless You in the New Year.
Father,
each day is a gift from You.
May we keep
this truth in mind.
We offer
You our joys and sorrows.
We offer
You our love.
Amen
