Ask, Seek, and Knock
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matt 7: 7)
We have all heard
this promise from Jesus. But I wonder how many consider
that God seeks us as well. He wants all
to come home to Him and spend eternity with Him in heaven.
Sadly, many ignore Him.
He asks that
we turn to Him in good times and bad. He
promises comfort in sorrow, strength in weakness, and joy in all things to
those who will answer. Our Blessed Mother
answered, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.” (Luke 1: 38). How many of us respond with “I’m too busy” or
“I can take care of it” or, even worse completely ignore Him?
He seeks to
make us holy. He will send the Holy Spirit
upon us and make us saints if we allow it. But we must answer yes. God will not make us holy if we spurn
Him. He will not count us among His
saints if we refuse His offer of holiness.
He knocks on
the door of our heart and soul. He wants
entry into our lives, to guide us, protect us, and to bring us home. If we open the door to Him, He will change our
lives. But we must open the door. How many treat God as they would a solicitor
at their door, slamming it in His face?
How many will never get to heaven because they have refused Him entry
into their heart and soul?
Each day, each hour God is asking for us to come to Him, seeking to make us holy, knocking at the door to our soul to save us from our sinfulness. If we answer no, how can we expect that He will answer us, respond to our seeking, or open the door for us?
Lord You come seeking us.
You want us to seek You.
Help us open our lives to You.
Make us Yours.
Amen
