Christian Evangelization
“Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence…) (1 Peter 3: 15 – 16).
There are
some who think evangelization and preaching are the same thing; they are not. If we approach others preaching to them about
their sins, we will most likely push them away.
If we speak to them respectfully, courteously explaining why we believe
what we believe they are much more likely to listen.
A co-worker once
told me that as a Christian it was my job to push everyone to believe in
God. I responded that all I can do by pushing
is push people away. What I am to do is
live my life as an example of Christian love and hope. In that way perhaps my inner peace will
appeal to others and prompt them to want to learn more.
There are
always those who are ready and willing to tell others that they are going to
hell for their sins. When approached in
that manner most people feel they are under attack and go on the defense. There is little hope of sincere communication
in such a situation.
When approached
with love and concern people will often respond in kind, perhaps developing a
relationship that may allow for conversations rather than arguments. In this way the door might be opened to an opportunity
to explain why we believe what we believe.
The best evangelization is the way we live our life. If we live for God and allow Him to live within us, it will be evident. This evidence of God’s presence is a large part Christian evangelization.
We are to spread Your word Lord.
Give us wisdom, give us knowledge.
Give us a peace that others may see.
Let us approach others in love.
Amen
